The Mission Position is a popular independent comedy showcase, hosted by five of San Francisco’s most accomplished comedians – Matt Lieb, Kate Willett, Jessica Sele, Torio Van Grol & Adrian McNair. Every Thursday, audiences fill Lost Weekend Video’s famous CineCave comedy den, for a show that provides club-level talent without irritating drink minimums or filler comics. The Mission Position welcomes a new lineup of special guests every week that include the Bay Area’s brightest comics alongside nationally touring headliners from NBC, TBS, E! and Comedy Central.

Lydia Popovich

Lydia-PopovichLydia Popovich is a SF-based comedian. Her anecdotal humor and vivid storytelling make her a unique voice in a sea of dick jokes.

She produces and hosts an all female stand-up showcase in the Bay Area called Ladies Love that takes place the second Tuesday of each month at The Layover in Oakland.

She’s a paid regular at Rooster T. Feathers, San Jose Improv, Punch Line SF, Punch Line Sacramento and Cobb’s Comedy Club.

She placed second in the 2014 She Devil Comedy Competition and has been featured in SF Sketchfest 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016. As well as the Women In Comedy Festival, Cape Fear Comedy Festival, Cabo Comedy Festival and the 2015 Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival. She also taught Derek Waters how to take a Jell-O shot on Comedy Central’s Drunk History.

She’s opened for certified headliners Maria Bamford, Eddie Pepitone, Paul Rodriguez, Wendy Liebman, Rob Delaney,  Jimmy Pardo, Aisha Tyler, Michael Kosta, Cameron Esposito, Wil Anderson, Dwayne Perkins, Jasper Redd, John Wing, Brooks Wheelan, Beth Stelling, Brad Williams, Moshe Kasher, Michael Yo, Jackie Kashian, Marga Gomez, Ngaio Bealum and John Roy.

Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters once touched her arm and said, “Hey, you’re pretty funny.”

The only things that bring her more joy than comedy are Dolly Parton and brunch.

 

Grant Lyon

Grantwebsize_1905-800Starting his career in the vibrant San Francisco comedy scene, San Francisco Weekly described Grant as “a hilariously sharp observer, not one of those tired white-guy bellyachers.” A former collegiate soccer player, Grant decided to pursue a career on stage instead of on the field. In 2014, he won the Laughing Skull Comedy Festival beating out comedians from all over the country, and was chosen as a New Face in comedy at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. As well as performing in a number of other prestigious comedy festivals including The Great American Comedy Festival, Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival, and the Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Grant performed on the TV show Comics Unleashed. He has appeared on the nationally syndicated Bob and Tom Radio Show and is heard regularly on Sirius/XM satellite radio. As well as being a contributing writer for the Huffington Post, the short film he wrote and starred in, Interview Date, was eligible for a short film Academy Award in 2013. Funny or Die, MSN, Huffington Post, and others are among the sites that have featured Grant’s sketch videos on their home pages. You might also recognize Grant from a number of national commercials including AT&T, Johnsonville Sausage, CiCi’s Pizza, and more.

Sean Keane

Sean KeaneSean Keane is a writer and comic from San Francisco, a former editor of UC Berkeley’s humor magazine, and and a founder of “The Business,” an acclaimed weekly comedy showcase that was named Best of SF in 2012. He has performed at SF Sketchfest and the Bridgetown Comedy Festival, and regularly produces a series of standup-and-video showcases, including “Sean In 60 Seconds,” “The Seanshank Redemption,” and “Keane Wolf.” Rooftop Comedy gave him their Silver Nail Award for emerging comedians, and the San Jose Mercury News named him one of their Top Five Comics To Watch

Emmet Montgomery

pInAlb7jBorn in Utah, based in Seattle, Emmett Montgomery is a storyteller, comedian and artist who first found the stand-up stage in 2004 and has been failing beautiful ever since. Emmett has been involved in a lot of things including critically acclaimed comedy collectives, post apocalyptic variety shows, underground wrestling leagues and family friendly comedy nights in pizza restaurants. Mr. Montgomery has been featured the film “Seattle Komedy Documentary”, the coffee table book “Seattle 100: a portrait of a city” and multiple festivals including Bumbershoot and the Bridgetown Comedy and Sasquatch festivals. In addition to wandering the country telling jokes he currently curates and hosts a love letter to Seattle in the form of variety show/sharing party entitled “Weird and Awesome with Emmett Montgomery” at the beloved Annex Theatre and is a member of the Seattle chapter of the Bushwick Book Club, a collection of musicians and artists that create and perform original works based on literary sources. Emmett lives with his beautiful wife and hideous cat in a refurbished motel built specifically for the 1962 Seattle Worlds Fair and enjoys making puppets.
