Mary Van Note
Mary Van Note is a comedian of the weird variety. She is the creator and star of the award-winning Independent Film Channel web series The Mary Van Note Show: Gavin Really Wants Me. She is a SF Weekly Masterminds grant recipient, a seven-time SF Sketchfest performer, and an Andy Kaufman Award Semi-Finalist. The San Francisco Bay Guardian called her a “Zine-Queen Comedian” as she regularly makes zines, crafts and mini-comics. Her specialties are stick-figures and cross-stitch. She also posts regularly on her personal style and comics blog at http://maryvannote.com/blog/
“A Gracie Allen for the new millennium, Van Note’s comedic styling is truly unique, as she combines elements of raunchy slapstick with charmingly innocent self-deprecation.” – Flypmedia.com
Growing up in San Jose, CA, Red Scott never saw things the same way as other kids; he thought he was cool. Born in the early 80s, he established himself as a trend-setter — fat, asthmatic, and socially inept years before Asperger’s was a syndrome or obesity an epidemic. On his way to finding the stage, Red had several diversions, ranging from working as a Software Developer to delivering for Pizza Hut in South Central Los Angeles. Red combines obscure and outdated references with the crazed insistence of a mental patient. His act encompasses everything from politics to absurdism to wordplay, all combined with deft crowd work.
When not on stage, Red explores the myriad of ways an individual can be indoors and fully protected from the sun. His podcast discussing Game of Thrones, “Boars, Gore, and Swords” has twice been featured on BoingBoing. He’s performed in SF Sketchfest 2011-2013 and is a regular at The San Francisco Punch Line, The San Jose Improv, Rooster T Feathers, as well as the usual dive bars and laundromats.
One of Los Angeles’ most exciting young “Alt Comics”, Laura Crawford regularly tears it up at clubs and theaters. A stand-up, writer, producer, and overall delight, she is not to be missed.
Iris Benson has, for the most part accomplished nothing. She is comedian because no other profession will have her and that includes drug dealing and prostitution. Since her comedy debut in 2011 she’s garnered such praise as “one of my favorite comedians around ”, “ Bleak and honest ”, “pleasantly dark” and “wonderfully weird” by no one that you’ve heard of. She’s performed all over the West Coast, Pacific Northwest and Montana. Iris has participated in comedy contests such as the Rooster T. Feather’s New Talent competition, Bunjo’s Killer Laughs Competition, Los Angeles Scripted Comedy Festival, The Laughing Devil Comedy Festival, Trial by Laughter and the She-Devil Comedy Festival. She has won none of them. Comedy has afforded Iris so much luxury that she now lives with her parents. She is determined to never have what is commonly referred to as a “day job” (also see “real job”) again. Her favorite things about doing stand-up include, having creative control and receiving approval she never gets anywhere else. She likes to bake, play with her dogs, watch movies, make out (often with a pillow, while crying) and drawing. She does not claim to be great at doing any of these things. You can hang out with her as long as you accept that she is completely unexceptional.
Cyrus is a hilarious Los Angeles-based comedian. H’s coming to San Francisco to make the funnies for you! Yes YOU!
